Holidays - Caribbean
The Caribbean is a crescent-shaped group of islands more than 2,000 miles long separating the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, to the west and south, from the Atlantic Ocean, to the east and north. From the peninsula of Florida on the mainland of the United States, Caribbean Sea and hundreds of tropical Caribbean Islands some call paradise. As befits heaven-on-earth, there is much to enjoy, see and do. Beaches, boats, banks and bikinis are Caribbean vacation essentials. Spanish, English, French, Dutch, Haitian Creole and Papiamento are the predominant official languages of various countries in the region, though a handful of unique Creole languages or dialects can also be found from one country to another. Christianity is the predominant religion in the Caribbean. Other religious groups in the region are: Hinduism, Islam, Rastafari, Santería, and Voodoo among others. Nature in the Caribbean can mean everything from volcanic peaks to deep valleys, natural springs, rainforests, and even deserts. The islands each offer their own unique wildlife and beautiful plants for travelers who spend a bit of time inland. The islands in the Northern Caribbean include the Bahamas, Bermuda, and Turks and Caicos. These islands are not actually located in the Caribbean Sea, but in the Atlantic Ocean, and their beaches reflect their location.
